Show and Tell: Favorite Christmas Ornaments

Show and Tell

Mel at Stirrup Queen's does a weekly Show and Tell.  This week, I will be showing you two of my favorite Christmas ornaments.

This is Little Drummer Boy.  He is very special because he is almost as old as DH.  Every year for the last thirty plus years, DH has been getting a handmade or specially chosen Christmas ornament from his grandma and aunt.  This one was given to DH when he was one.  It has DH's name and the year 1976 handwritten on the back.  There are other ornaments dating back to from when he was born but somehow this one holds a special place in my heart.  Maybe it's the blonde hair and blue outfit that reminds me of DH.  We could not figure out which one he got the year he was born since some of the ornaments were not dated.   These ornaments are so precious to me!

This second one is special to me because it was from our honeymoon in Tahiti.  I call it "From Bora Bora, with Love".  We stayed in some overwater bungalows in Bora Bora and this was the holder that held my sarong/wrap that was a welcome gift from the hotel.  DH got a free t-shirt.  The holder is made of straw or grass and has two shells on it.  Technically it is not a Christmas ornament, but it sits on our tree.  Every year, as we put up the Christmas tree, it reminds us of how special our marriage is, and the wonderful time we had on our honeymoon.

So what are your favorite Christmas ornaments?  Leave a comment then hop on over to Mel's to check out the rest of the class.

  2. I have so many faves. Since my husband and I have been together he has given me a Lenox ornament every year. They are probably my most cherished. I will have to post them next week.

  3. Beautiful ornaments! My tree is full of ornaments I picked up traveling as well. 32 from 32 different countries. Lots of great memories.

  4. Great ornaments. I wrote a post like this last year, showcasing my favorites. http://ginalou.blogspot.com/2008/12/christmas-past.html
I hope to write another one this year. Aren't ornaments great reminders of the past? They're so sweet, I think.

  6. Perfect ornaments! I think you can tell a lot about people by the ornaments that decorate their Christmas tree. Yours feels full of love and history! Perfect!

  7. I saw your comment on Eileen's blog (We got hitched...), and wanted to comment to you. I tried for a year and a half before getting getting a BFP on my first IUI...and then miscarrying a week later. Although it's VERY hard to never get a BFP, sometimes it is better to never get a BFP and therefore never go through a miscarriage. (Obviously I hope you do get a BFP and soon.) After I miscarried I wondered if it was a fluke...if maybe there was something really wrong and I wouldn't ever get a BFP again...and if I did then maybe I was going to keep miscarrying. So I think in a way it is better to not have any BFP until the "real thing" even if it takes many, many years. Miscarriages are devastating, and as horrible as getting your period is every month, it can potentially make you doubt ever carrying to term even more than you do already. Just my two cents from having experienced both sides of the fence. :-)

  8. I love those ornaments! How special to have a tradition of getting ornaments each year. My husband's family has a similar one, and they open them on Christmas Eve, but we're starting to limit it--with 4 people in the family, the tree is getting really crowded!
