Christmas Card Decision

I'm excited about taking part in my first ICLW!

Well, a decision has been made.  I posted about my Christmas card dilemma earlier and we have decided to do what we have done in the past.  We just sent out store bought cards and a Christmas letter.

I struggled at first with what to put in the letter.  It was a tough year with dealing with IF (again!).  I thought we would be able to write about a new baby this year.  But no, not this year either.  So, we ended doing a highlights of the year, and included a few pictures in the letter.  That took up enough space without having to write too much in the letter.

I take comfort in knowing that some people truly love getting those letters every year.  Especially people we only see once a year, or are overseas that we never see.  The other benefit of doing letters is that I can email the letter to overseas friends and family (since I am too cheap to send cards overseas).

Anyway, I completed all my cards and letters, and they were put in the mail on Monday and yesterday.  It feels like a huge accomplishment!

Now I just need to deal with the snowstorm hitting MN today through Christmas!  Travel is going to suck!

By the way, Happy ICLW!

  1. I'm excited for your upcoming IVF!!!! My hubby and I just completed our 2nd IVF, unforunately, due to my hubbies sperm, we didn't get our most wanted pregnancy. I'll be excited to follow on your journey! ~ ICLW

  2. Good for you for sending out your cards on your terms. One of my single teacher friends sent us a card and enclosed her school picture with this commentary, "I figure that all across America people are exchanging school/holiday photos in their Christmas cards. Who am I to go against societal norms?" I thought that was perfect and hysterical.

Merry Christmas and here's to a happier card dilemma next year...

  3. Good for you to send your cards and enclose a letter :) I struggled with sending cards this year, as I had envisioned our Christmas card to be a birth announcement. We celebrate a Christmas Angel instead...and I never managed to send cards.

Sending you hugs and wishing for a successful IVF cycle :) May all the blessings of life be yours.

    Hugs,

  4. ICLW - I just wrote a post today about the real type of Christmas letter I wanted to send out. Ha, ha. Actually I don't send out Christmas letters and for the last two years have skipped the cards as well, but I figured what better place to air my unhappy Christmas letter than my blog? ;) Best wishes to you in 2010 and with your upcoming IVF cycle.

  6. Even though it was difficult to do, writing out your highlights of the year and sending them to people who matter to you is a great way of focusing on what you did achieve and enjoy this year. Everyone on your list probably cares about your happiness and health, and know what you want so much. Don't be tempted to stop connecting with them at Christmas each year. It's much harder to find reasons to call or write during the rest of the year.

Have a happy Christmas and I wish you all that you want in the New Year.

  9. Hi,

    ICLWer here,

I think that focusing on highlights of the past year is a very good idea. But even special cards aside, any real card is so much better than e-card, I just love real cards.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  11. Any holiday seems to be a reminder that it's another day/season/moment that's passed without a baby. Hoping next year we both have much to write about!

  13. Here's to 2010!! You're a much better person than I, I stopped giving out the cards after our miscarriage in 2006. I use the excuse of being 'green' but that's not it...tired of having nothing to tell.
