ICLW & 6dp3dt
This week is ICLW, International Comment Leaving Week. It seems that I have missed the last 2 month's ICLW and didn't even notice. Shame on me. If you are visiting for the first time, or it has been awhile since you stopped by, this is a pretty important time for me. Last Friday, Babe (i.e. hubby) and I just had our transfer of adopted embryos from NEDC. You can read about it here if you'd like. Please pray for a positive outcome as the last 2 transfer in November 2013 and January 2014 both resulted in chemical pregnancies.
Our first beta is next Tuesday, May 27th, the day after Memorial Day.
Today is 6dp3dt. Today, the embryos continue to implant into the uterine lining.
This morning I gave myself the PIO shot as Babe is traveling for work. It went pretty smoothly with no issues. I met a friend for lunch and later, another friend for coffee. By late afternoon, my right hip was really sore, so much so that I started limping. I am wondering if I maybe hit a nerve during my morning shot. By the time I got home, I could barely stand it, so I took an ibuprofen (I later found out I should have taken Tyle.nol instead!), put a hot pack on it and laid down to rest. I was super tired anyways so I took a short nap. By the time I got up, the pain has subsided a bit and was more bearable.
Not long after that, I had to give myself the evening PIO shot. I do my evening shots on my left hip. To relax the muscles of my left leg and hip, I had to put my most of my weight on my right leg, the leg where my hip was sore from this morning's shot. It was not fun trying to twist my body to the left, using my left hand to give myself a shot, AND putting my weight on the sore leg. In the end, I managed. I'm hoping my left hip will not give me too much trouble tonight and that the pain on my right hip will be gone tomorrow.
So far, no real symptoms. No real cramping either, maybe just some uterine "stirrings". Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
5 more days to our first beta test!

February 2014 ICLW
Ooppss.... we are more than halfway through ICLW of February! Happy ICLW! Sorry for the late post.
If you are visiting for the first time, or have not been here in a while, here's a quick catch up on where I am right now. At the end of January, Babe and I had our second frozen embryo transfer (FET) of our adopted embryos. We worked with the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) and flew to Knoxville, TN for our transfer. We transferred 3 blastocysts (day 5 embryos). You can read about our transfer here.
We were over the moon when we found out during our first beta that we were not only pregnant, but with a pretty high beta number of 159. However, we were shocked and devastated to find out at our second beta that our number had dropped to only 44, and again to 20 at our third beta. We were having another chemical pregnancy. We had our first chemical pregnancy at our first transfer in January.
We have had 2 chemical pregnancies so far, and we plan to go back to NEDC in May for another transfer. We are currently in the process of matching with another donor family. We hope to complete this process in the next couple of weeks.
I'd love for you to join me on our (long) journey to parenthood.

Transfer Day & January 2014 ICLW
Hello ICLWers!
I just realized that I missed the last 2 months of ICLWs. Oh well, November ICLW was right around first transfer, and December, it was just a crazy month with Christmas.
Well this ICLW is an exciting time for me. Today, we are are having our frozen embryo transfer for our adopted embryos at 12:45 pm EST. Depending on when you are reading this, I may already be PUPO (pegnant until proven otherwise). We are working with The National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, TN. We adopted frozen embryos through them which we will transfer and hope that we can be pregnant and carry our adopted child(ren).
This is actually our second try at NEDC. In November, we transferred two excellent quality embryos at NEDC. Unfortunately, it resulted in a chemical pregnancy. So we back to try again. Prior to this, we had gone through over 9 years of trying to start our family......... Clo.mid, IUIs, IVFs and surgeries. Originally we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility but towards the end, I was diagnosed with low quality eggs during our IVFs. We decided to adopt instead. We started going down the international adoption route but switched over to embryo adoption because we felt that was the better choice for us.
If you new to my blog, or if you'd like to see where we've been on our journey, you can see the highlights on the Our Journey So Far page. Stick around to see how this things play out in the next couple of months.

October 2013 ICLW
Hello again, ICLWers!
I'm a couple of days late on ICLW this week. Hopefully I will be able to catch up on commenting. Welcome, if this is the first time you are visiting.
This next month should be a pretty exciting month for me. Before the November ICWL, I will hopefully have had my transfer of my adopted embryos. My transfer is currently scheduled for November 20th at the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, TN. I was originally scheduled for a transfer in September, but two days before I was supposed to hop on the airplane, we found out that I have a polyp in my uterus. So sadly that transfer was cancelled, and I am currently scheduled to have a hysteroscopy & polypectomy to remove the polyp on October 31st, yup Halloween. After trying for almost 10 years, including multiple rounds of Clo.mid, IUIs, surgeries (this will be my 4th hysteroscopy!) and 4 rounds of IVFs, AND turning 40 in August, I have to wait yet again. But this is best as we want to ensure that my body is in the ideal condition for the transfer.
I am excited as we have started our protocol. I started BCPs last week after a bit of a drama, which included taking a pregnancy test. Took the test on Thursday, started BCP the same day and my period started on Saturday. I started "loopy Lu.pron" yesterday. Next week, I will have my baseline ultrasound on 10/30, and my surgery on 10/31. And if everything looks good, I will start my Es.trace on 10/31.
For those of you new to my blog or to see how I got here, swing on over to my "Our Journey So Far" page.

September 2013 ICLW
Welcome ICLWers!
This should be a very exciting time for me.
I should be in Knoxville, TN right now for the transfer of our adopted embryos from on the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) this Sunday.
Well at least that was the plan. Two days before we were to hop on the airplane, we found out that I have a polyp in my uterus. Dr. Keenan from NEDC recommended that we postpone our transfer until November. So sadly, I had to cancel my travel plans and wait another couple of months before I get to meet my adopted babies waiting for me in TN. In the mean time I have an appointment with a specialist at the end of the month to schedule surgery to remove my polyp.
This is obviously a very disappointing time for me. After trying for almost 10 years, including multiple rounds of Clo.mid, IUIs, surgeries and 4 rounds of IVFs, AND turning 40 in August, I have to wait yet again. However, I want to make sure that my body is ready and in the ideal condition to give my babies the best chance at life.
It is another reminder that no matter how much I try to plan, prepare and control things, in the end I am not in control, but God is.
It sounds like a cliche, but it really is all in God's timing.
For those of you new to my blog or to see how I got here, swing on over to my "Our Journey So Far" page.
Thanks for visiting. Hope you stick around to see how things play out in the next couple of months.

August 2013 ICLW
Hello ICLWers!
If you have not been following my blog, this next month will be an exciting time for me. In exactly a month, I will be in Knoxville getting ready for our FET (frozen embryo transfer) of our adopted embryos.
After 10 years of trying including multiple rounds of Clo.mid, IUI's, a few surgeries and 4 rounds of IVFs, plus turning 40 this month, we are now hoping to grow our family via embryo adoption. We are adopting our embryos from The National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) in Knoxville, TN. Our transfer date is currently scheduled for Sunday 9/22. I will start up on my "loopy" Lu.pron shots on Friday and and stop BCP (birth control pills) on 8/27. So my protocol will officially start on Friday, and then we are off!
Hope you stick around and follow me on this journey.

July 2013 ICLW
Hello ICLWers!
This is another one of those months that I am playing catch up on on ICLW. It's already halfway through ICLW and I am now finally posting and catching up on reading and commenting. It has been kind of a crazy month with having a wedding in the family and having extended family stay with us for over a week. Thanks to those that have already stopped by and commented here.
The other day I was thinking about how long we have really been on this journey to grow our family. I just checked that at my last ICLW posting in June, I said we had been trying for almost 9 years. In reality, I realize that it is coming up on almost 10 years. I remember because we were on a romantic vacation on an island in Thailand in February 2004 when we decided to ditch the birth control pills. Babe and I have been married for almost 11 years, and have been trying to have baby for almost 10 years. A decade. That's is long time.
Anyway, the short version of our story..... we tried Clo.mid, IUI's a couple of surgeries and 4 rounds of IVFs with no success. We were initially diagnosed with unexplained infertility but then were told, based on findings during our IVFs, we are not able to conceive due tocrappy low quality eggs. Last year we started our international adoption process but then decided to switch to embryo adoption instead.
We are adopting our embryos through The National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC). We had our initial appointment with Dr. Keenan, selected 2 donor families (we need to have a minimum of 6 embryos) and were approved by them, and currently have a transfer scheduled for September, though we do not have a definite date yet. We are currently working on finalizing our Open Donation Agreements with our donor families. Once that is completed, we should have date for our September transfer. I can't wait to find out when we will be flying out to TN again for our actual transfer.
Hope you will stick around to find out how things play out.

June 2013 ICLW
It always amazes me how quickly a month flies by and it is time for ICLW again.
For those new here from ICLW, here's a quick round up of where we are. Babe and I have been married for almost 11 years, and had been trying to have a baby for almost 9. We tried clomid, IUIs and also 4 rounds of IVFs without any success. We were originally diagnosed with unexplained infertility but was later told we are not able to conceive due to
We are working with the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) to adopt our embryos. Last month we flew out to Knoxville, TN to meet up with the staff there and had our initial appointment and mock transfer. We were given some profiles of donor families that met our preferences for us to select embryos from. About 2 weeks ago, Babe and I selected 2 families. Both donor families accepted and approved us to adopt their embryos almost immediately! We are so happy and excited about this!
Just yesterday, we had a phone meeting with our counselor regarding our Open Donation Agreement (ODA). I will write about this in another post. That's where we are right now. I hope you stick around and follow us as we continue on our journey to grow our family via embryo adoption!

May 2013 ICLW
For those new here from ICLW, here's a quick update about us. After years of trying to start our family, including multiple attempts with IUIs and IVFs, we are now hoping to grow our family through the miracle of embryo adoption.
This is a pretty exciting time for us. At the time of this posting, Babe and I are in Knoxville, TN. We will meet with Dr. Keenan tomorrow at NEDC for our initial appointment. This will be our first time meeting him and his staff. I'm really excited because I've heard from so many people that they are wonderful to work with. We will do a full workup and a mock transfer. If everything goes well, we will start the matching process by selecting a donor family. I will try to update on how things go when I can.

April ICLW & NIAW 2013
April has been an interesting month in Minnesota. Technically we are in spring, but we just had a winter snowstorm last night, which produced a beautiful winter wonderland this morning. Then the sun came out and it was gorgeous! The sun melted most of the snow, and the college kids were out running around and rollerblading in their shorts and t-shirts this afternoon (though we were only in the high 40's today!).
In addition, this week we have ICLW (International Comment Leaving Week) coinciding with the National Infertility Awareness Week. So if you are stopping by from ICLW, welcome. I've already missed a couple of days of ICLW but will try to keep up with commenting. See who else is participating this month and maybe you will find another blog or two that interests you.
For those new here, and to catch folks up, here's a quick recap of where we are. Babe and I have been married over 10 years and have been trying for a baby of our own for almost 9 of those years. We have done 4 rounds of IVF but have been unsuccessful. In the last year, we have been on the path of international adoption. Then in November, we decided that we wanted to pursue embryo adoption. We are now working with the National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) and have our first appointment in Knoxville, TN in May. We hope to be matched with a donor family after that, and hope to transfer some adopted embryos hopefully this summer or fall.
This week is also National Infertility Awareness Week. Resolve has been putting this together since 1989. This year's theme is "Join the Movement". There is a list of bloggers that have participated this year, writing about their infertility journeys. Read them here. If you or someone you love are new to infertility, these postings will help you understand and relate. If you are a veteran like me, it will help you feel less alone in this journey.

March 2013 ICLW
Happy ICLW everyone! Welcome to the first time visitors as well as old friends. ICLW stands for "International Comment Leaving Week", in case you didn't know.
A little about our story: Babe (hubby) and I have been trying for a baby since February 2004. We were first diagnosed with "unexplained infertility". Since then we have tried just about everything - Clo.mid, surgeries for uterine polyps, 4 IUIs, and 4 failed IVFs, with the last one in July 2011. My RE determined that we have low egg quality, probably due to age. However, we have been trying since I was 30, a year after our wedding. So I wonder if it had always been an egg issue. I guess we will never truly know.
Since then, we have gone down the path of adoption. We were in the process of completing our home study for an international adoption with the US Marshall Islands, but right before we completed the home study process, we decided we to pursue embryo adoption instead. Since making this decision, we encountered a roadblock with our home study as our agency decided that they would not allow us to complete our home study for embryo adoption. After looking into other agencies, our current agency has agreed to complete the home study, but with the condition that they transfer it to another adoption agency for the embryo adoption process. This has been a long and frustrating process. Currently, we have seen a draft of our home study report, and are just waiting for the formal approved home study.
In the mean time, we have an appointment in May for our initial visit to NEDC, the agency/clinic that we will be adopting our embryos from. We are hoping to be matched soon, and for our embryo transfer to either be in July or September.
I'm hoping for some updates soon, so stay tuned! Don't forget to visit the other bloggers participating in this month's ICLW.

February 2013 ICLW
Happy ICLW everyone!
It has been almost a year since the last time I participated in ICLW. Many things have changed since then. I haven't been in the blogworld for a while, and now I'm back. If you've been here before, welcome back!
The short version of our story: Babe (hubby) and were married in the Fall of 2002, and started actively trying for a baby in February 2004. We were first diagnosed with "unexplained infertility". Since then, we have tried just about everything... Clom.id, surgeries for uterine polyps, 4 IUIs, and 4 failed IVFs, with the last one in July 2011. My RE determined that we have low egg quality, probably due to age. However, we have been trying for a baby since I was 30, so I wonder if it had alway been an egg issue.
Since then, we have gone down the path of international adoption. However, over the course of the adoption home study process, we have decided to pursue embryo adoption instead. Since my absence from the blogworld, I wrote a catch up post here. We are still working on completing our home study when we just found out last week that our agency will not allow us to complete it for embryo adoption. Since then we have looked at another agency and the thought of having the redo our home study process over again from scratch both infuriates and upsets me.
To find out the latest updates, read the last few posts. I will be posting more updates soon (I will be writing another post about today's update)!

March 2012 ICLW
Hello to those stopping by from ICLW. If you are new to ICLW, it stands for International Comment Leaving Week. If you are new to my site, welcome. If you've been here before, thanks for stopping by again. Time has flown by for me this month. It feels like a lot has happened, but yet seems like not much progress.
Our story briefly: Babe (hubby) and I have been TTC for over 8 years (I cringe every time I look at the number!). We were first diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" Since then, we done just about everything... clomid, surgeries for polyps, 4 IUIs, and a total of 4 IVFs, with the last one done last July. My RE determined that we have low egg quality, probably due to age (I am 38). However, we have been trying for more than 8 years, so we wonder if it had always been an egg issue? I guess we'll never know.
Since the last IVF July, we had taken a break from fertility treatments, and now wondering what's next. At last month's ICLW post, we were thinking about adoption, and trying to decide which one to go with - international or domestic. Since then, we attended the information meeting at the adoption agency, and we have decided that we would pursue multiple tracks at the same time. We are currently on the waiting lists for both the US Marshall Islands international program, as well as the domestic infant adoption. We have started our adoption application and homestudy paperwork. At the same time, we are also working on the online application for embryo adoption. With the homestudy, once approved, we can do any of the 3 options. Of course, we will come to a point where we can only pick one, but in the meantime, we need to get our paperwork done.
I will be posting more about this adoption journey, so stay tuned.

If you've been here before, thanks for stopping by again. It's been a while since my last ICLW entry, since I went missing in action for a few months last year after my last failed IVF.

In fact, tonight, we will be attending an information meeting with an adoption agency that has has a program with the US Marshall Islands.

Belated ICLW & A Roller Coaster Ride
First off, I'd like to apologize for a non-productive ICLW again. Thanks to those who stopped by from ICLW. It's been another bad month for ICLW. I'm actually surprised I made it to ICLW this month. If you are new to my site, welcome. If you've been here before, thanks for stopping by again.
Our story briefly: Babe (hubby) and I have been TTC for over 7 years. We were first diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" Since then, we done just about everything... clomid, surgeries for polyps, 4 IUIs, and a total of 3 IVFs, with the last one done last July (wow, has it been a year already?).
Based on my last 2 IVFs, my RE determined that we have low egg quality, probably due to age (I am turning 38 in August). However, we have been trying for 7 years, so we wonder if it had always been an egg issue? I guess we'll never know.
Since the last IVF a year ago, we had taken a long break. We thought we were done. Then I started a new job in September, which we found out, now we have fertility coverage again.
So fast forward to June, and now I am in the middle of my IVF cycle. I started my stims on 6/17 and last Thursday, I thought I had to cancel this IVF cycle. At my appointment, the clinic thought I had a lead follicle at 19x16 mm, and numerous other small ones. Because there was only one follicle maturing, and much faster than the others, I was told I may have to cancel the IVF and convert in into and IUI. But I went back on Friday for another ultrasound, and they found out my follicles were growing just fine. Turns out the ultrasound technician (who is new I think, since I've never seen her before) measured the follicle wrong. She must have measured 2 follicles as one.
Anyways, just found out today that I am ready. So I had my 2 Ovi.drel shots today (instead of HCG), and I am set for retrieval for Wednesday. I have to be at the clinic at 6:30 am! I'm excited, but also nervous. To be honest, I'm not feeling optimistic this cycle. Can't imagine how the outcome of this cycle would be any different than previous ones. Anyways we we have to wait and see.
Will keep you posted!

Welcome February ICLWers
Hello ICLWers!
I can't believe it's time again for ICLW. I missed the January ICLW. Actually I thought I signed up for it, and then found out it didn't register. I was probably too late.
Anyway, I've been a bad blogger. It's been more than a 2 weeks since my last post. I thought I was doing so good, and then I fell off the bandwagon. Again.
Anyway, if you are now to my site, welcome. If you've been here before, thanks for stopping by again =)
Our story: In a nutshell, Babe (DH) and I have been TTC for over 7 years. Yikes! It's been seven years! We were first diagnosed as having "unexplained infertility", with 4 IUIs and some surgeries thrown in for good measure. We have done a total of 3 IVFs, with the last one just completed in July of last year.
Based on the last 2 IVFs, my RE determined that we have low egg quality issue. Well, after TTC for 7 years and me turning 38 in August, I suppose age is a factor. I wonder if egg quality was an issue 4, 5, or even 6 years ago when we first started trying? I guess we'll never know.
For now, we are "taking a break" from TTC. It's nice to be able to just not think about what cycle day it is, having to avoid alcohol, sushi or soft cheeses, taking prenatal vitamins, etc. I also started a new job in September, which is keeping me really busy. We will probably do another round of IVF in the next few months since with my new job, we get insurance coverage. When I did my IVFs, I was not working. Now I am not looking forward to working and going through the IVF regiment at the same time.
So stick around to see how this all plays out!

August ICLW
It's already the 3rd day of ICLW and I am still slacking off on writing a post about it. Or commenting. Thanks to all that have already visited here, and have left some comments. I will get on it, I promise!
In a nutshell, Babe (DH) and I have been TTC for over 6 years. We were first diagnosed as having "unexplained infertility" (I hate that word), with 4 IUIs and some surgeries thrown in for good measure. We have done a total of 3 IVFs (one done overseas), with the last one just completed in July. I got my period the night before my beta. That really sucked.
Based on the last 2 IVFs, it was determined that we have egg quality issue. Well, after TTC for 6 years and me just turning 37 in August, I suppose age is a factor. Was egg quality an issue 3, 4 or 5 years ago when we first started trying? I guess we'll never know.
For now, we are "taking a break" from TTC. It's nice to be able to just not think about what cycle day it is, having to avoid alcohol, sushi or soft cheeses, taking prenatal vitamins, etc. At least until we decide what's next.
So, that's me in a nutshell. Looking forward to reading your stories.

Welcome July ICLWers!
Happy ICLW everyone! ICLW or IComLeavWe stands for International Comment Leaving Week. It's a great time to find new blogs and meet new friends.
I will be turning 37 in less than 3 weeks (Ugh!!), and Babe and I have been married for almost 8 years. We have been TTC for our first baby for more than 6 years. It has been a very long and tough road for us.
This ICLW coincides with a pretty exciting time for us. Babe (my hubby) and I just completed our 3rd round of IVF. You can read about our egg retrieval last Friday here and our transfer on Monday here. I am so excited to finally a have photo of our embryos, Icsi & Dicsi. We had a BFN on our first IVF, and at our last cycle, our embryos did not make to to transfer. We now we are optimistic and praying that this cycle will work for us.
I just completed my 48 hours of bed rest as of noon today. So now I'm in the dreaded 2WW (2 week wait). Any suggestions on how to deal with the next 2WW? I'm thinking maybe a mani/pedi.
Also, I'm PUPO! I'm pregnant until proven otherwise!
Thanks for visiting my blog, and I hope you stick around to see how this cycle plays out.

Welcome June ICLWers!
Welcome ICLWers! It's time again for ICLW.
For those going what the heck is ICLW, it's stands for International Comment Leaving Week. It's a week dedicated to honoring and encouraging commenting on fellow bloggers' sites. It's a great time to find new blogs and make new friends. Check out the complete list of ICLWers on Mel's official June ICLW page.
For those visiting for the first time, welcome!
A quick intro: I am 36++ years old and have been married to Babe for almost 8 years. We have been TTC our first baby for more than 6 years. So far, we have yet to see a BFP. We have gone through multiple IUIs and 2 IVFs, but still no baby. You can read a summary of our journey here.
In March, during our last IVF cycle, we did not make it to embryo transfer as our 2 embryos arrested before they could make day 5. It was a very difficult time for me as I didn't expect all our embryos to not survive. To make matters worse, they could only access my left ovary during egg retrieval because my right ovary was in a "difficult location". Previously, my diagnosis was "unexplained infertility" but now, my RE thinks that I low quality eggs due to age. If you are interested in how my last IVF cycle turn out, you can read my posts from March, starting from around March 10th.
I am currently waiting to start my next IVF cycle in July. In fact, I have my nurse's consult tomorrow. This next cycle, we are planning on doing ICSI since we had a low fertilization rate last time. Unfortunately, my RE anticipates that we will continue to have issue accessing the right ovary. So it all depends on the left ovary this cycle. I am currently doing acupuncture and traditional chinese herbs, so I am hoping that will help with the quality of my eggs this time.
Thanks for visiting my blog, and I hope you stick around to see how this next cycle plays out.
Happy ICLW!

May ICLW & 6 Month Bloggaversary
Welcome ICLWers! I can't believe it's been a month since the last ICLW.
For those new to ICLW, it's a week every month dedicated to honoring and encouraging commenting on fellow bloggers' blogs. Great time to find new blogs and make new friends.
For those visiting for the first time, welcome!
To make a long story short, my husband, Babe and I have been on the TTC journey for about 6 years. We've gone through IUIs and 2 IVF cycles now, but still no baby. You can read the history of our journey here.
In March I had just gone through my last IVF. I did not get a BFN because my I didn't even make it to embryo transfer. My only 2 embryos that fertilized out of 6, arrested before we could do a transfer. It was a very difficult time for me because I didn't expect that I would not make the transfer. If you are interested in reading more about my experience, you can read about my egg retrieval here, fertilization report here, fertilization update here, and embryos update here.
After that, my RE believes that I have low quality egg issue due to age (I'm 36). She recommended that I do the Karotype test which tests for chromosomal abnormalities. Thankfully that came back normal. So now we are getting ready to start our next round of IVF.
On another note....
It's my 6 month Bloggaversary!!
Yup, it's been that long since I started blogging. I've said this before, when I started blogging, I had no idea if anyone would even read this. Now, I have around 90 followers, and lots of new wonderful and supportive friends. Thank you so much for coming along with me on this crazy journey.
I would love to hear from you if you are visiting for the first time, or if you are a regular (thanks for your support!). Have a great ICLW and hope you find lots of new and interesting blogs.
p/s Oops! Just noticed that I put April instead of May ICLW in the title. It's corrected now. Sorry bout that!
